I’ve written previously about how I like to use Google’s Ad Preview tool to monitor search engine results pages (SERPs) in different countries and regions. Checking in on the different SERPs gives me insight on how my paid search (PPC) campaigns are appearing to people in those regions. I also like to see what organic results are coming up on top outside of the US.
Well, Google’s tool hasn’t worked well lately and, to be honest, it wasn’t the easiest to use in the first place. That’s why I was excited to get an email from Dave Davis of Red Fly Marketing. His team has developed a Firefox extension that does the same thing - only it’s built right into your browser.
Stop by Dave’s site for the download and tutorial. It’s a must if you’re advertising with Google Adwords outside of your own country.

Thanks for the mention Patrick. Very much appreciated.
Also, thanks for your help with the bug reports!
I’ll have to keep this in mind. I think it’s only a matter of time before we start advertising outside of North America.
Dave,
No problem on the mention. Thank YOU for creating a very useful tool!
Hey Adam,
I encourage advertising outside of North America. I find the clicks and conversions cost much less than in the US and Canada. My click-through rates are also much higher - possibly due to less competition.
Patrick,
It’s definitely something we’ll be doing in the future. However, due to the nature of the industry I work in, we essentially have to create all new products whenever we want to expand into a new market.
The products have to come first, then the ads. But, there has been some talk about trying to do more in Europe (right now, we do a little bit of UK work, and that’s about it), so I suspect that we’ll be advertising outside of N. America within the next 12 months.

Thanks Patrick for pointing out this great resource. I used to change the url by hand. I searched for a Firefox extension in the past, but didn’t find any.
Love the fact that I can add as many countries as I want!
Hey Vido,
Yeah, this is a great tool! Changing the url by hand was not efficient. The Red Fly team did us a great service on this extension.

Hi
the natural SERPs are different if I’m looking at the results through google.co.uk and through the google ad preview tool. Given that I am based in the UK, do you know which of the two is more representative?
